( 24) This 18-foot, 9-inch walk-around rescue truck by Rescue 1 features a hydraulic operated lift-up rear
staircase. Other features include drop-down steps under each compartment with optional seat cushions
for rehab, an awning, a light tower, and LED compartment strip lighting that can be switched from white
to red to preserve night vision. ( 25) Another “blacked-out” rig was this Rosenbauer Avenger pumper. It has
many unique features including an ergonomically designed cab and body, an accessible hosebed, and a fully
enclosed pump panel in the left rear compartment. ( 26) The discharge diagram, color coding, and large
operating handles on the Rosenbauer Avenger pump panel make it easy to understand and operate. ( 27) This
Rosenbauer Concept Fire Truck (CFT), which the company calls the “fire truck of the future,” is really unique!
This was the first time the CFT was displayed at a public exhibition. Access to the inside of the truck required
CF T team approval and signing a nondisclosure agreement! The unit is electrically driven and has all-wheel
steering. The chassis has a short 150-inch wheelbase, carries 320 gallons of water, and is equipped with a
Rosenbauer HN35 750-gpm fire pump that also operates in high-pressure mode of 80 gpm 600 pounds
per square inch (psi). ( 28) This Rosenbauer Panther crash truck carries 3,100 gallons of water, 500 pounds
of dry chemical, and a 2,100-gpm pump. The 54-foot articulating Stinger boom is equipped with a piercing
nozzle. ( 29) Marion Body Works, known for all-aluminum rescue bodies, is incorporating many compartment
modifications into its pumper line. This pumper for the Northville (CT) Fire Department displays many of
those features. ( 30) FWD Seagrave manufactured a tandem heavy-rescue for the Ulster (NY) Fire District.
The heavy-duty, stainless-steel, walk-in rescue body has ample room for equipment storage. The split-tilt
cab has compartment doors to the rear for full access for engine maintenance. ( 31) Hendrickson had several
suspension systems for fire apparatus on display. The NX T front steering axle system maximizes ride comfort
as well as handling and performance. The box-shaped axle beam resists twisting forces and reduces front axle
weight by more than 100 pounds.
